Positive = gap exists; negative = vehicle body protrudes past platform face.
Formula / method notes
Scope: nominal static geometry only; no dynamic, kinematic, construction, tolerance, compliance, or standards allowance is included.
Plan method: train body is a rigid straight chord between bogie centres on tangent/circular track. Door input is longitudinal distance from vehicle centre and is mirrored at ±x.
Coordinates: x is longitudinal from vehicle centre. u is lateral from track centreline at uncanted rail-top datum. Platform offset is lateral to the platform face.
Cant model: inside rail is low, outside rail is high. Cant rotates section about inside/low rail top using θ = atan(cant/(gauge + rail head width)).
Curve hand mapping: inside/outside engineering sides are mapped to physical left/right display by curve hand only; magnitudes are unchanged by handedness.
Gap outputs: horizontal step gap is from platform face to door threshold edge (main result shown as magnitude). Vertical gap is door threshold RL − platform RL; negative means threshold below platform.
